NIOS TOC (Transfer of Credit): Rules, Fees and Documents
Failed Class 10 or 12 with another board but passed some subjects? TOC lets you carry up to two of those passes into NIOS.
Who can use TOC
Former Secondary or Senior Secondary students of a recognised board who passed at least one subject but did not qualify in the course. The board must have equivalence from the Association of Indian Universities, and your result data should be verifiable on the board’s website (otherwise get it verified by the board and submit it with the form).
The rules
- Maximum two subjects can be transferred.
- Each must be passed with at least 33% in the last five years (for 2026-27: passed in 2022 or later).
- Only subjects in the NIOS scheme of studies qualify.
- Senior Secondary subjects with practicals: theory and practical must each be passed separately.
- Ask for TOC at the time of admission, with subject, marks and roll number in the form.
- Send the original parent-board failed marksheet to your NIOS Regional Centre within 10 days of online admission, with the acknowledgement copy. Later submission costs ₹500 per TOC subject via e-service.
Fees
TOC fee: ₹230 per subject (2026-27), in addition to the admission fee. See the fee estimator.
Ex-NIOS learners
If your NIOS admission expired after five years, up to four passed NIOS subjects (passed in the last ten years) can be carried into a fresh admission. Re-admission rules apply.
