NIOS Class 12 subjects sit in six groups, and the group rule trips up many learners. Here is the full list.

Rules and fees below are taken from the official prospectus (Table-1). NIOS can revise them by notice — check sdmis.nios.ac.in and our updates page before you pay or apply.

Rules

  • Five subjects with one or two languages from Group A; the rest from Groups B–F.
  • Only one subject each from Groups C, D, E and F.
  • Up to two additional subjects (still one per group C–F) — maximum seven.
  • * = theory and practical.

Stream-wise examples

  • Science (PCM): English, Hindi, Mathematics (B), Physics (C), Chemistry (D) — plus Computer Science (F) if you want
  • Science (PCB): English, Physics (C), Chemistry (D), Biology (E), Hindi
  • Commerce: English, Hindi, Business Studies (B), Economics (B), Accountancy (E)
  • Arts: English, Hindi, History (C), Political Science (D), Sociology (F)

Physics and History are both in Group C, so you can’t take both. Check entrance-exam subject requirements before you choose.

Common questions

Can I take Physics and History together in NIOS Class 12?

No. Both are in Group C and only one subject per group C–F is allowed.

Is NIOS Class 12 science valid for NEET or JEE?

NIOS offers Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Eligibility is decided by each exam body — read its current notice.

How many subjects can I take in NIOS Class 12?

Minimum five and maximum seven.
