Rules and fees below are taken from the official prospectus (Sections 2.1 and 4.2). NIOS can revise them by notice — check sdmis.nios.ac.in and our updates page before you pay or apply.

Who can appear

  • Registered NIOS learners with an enrolment number and valid ID card.
  • Stream 1 Block I learners: only after the March–April public exam; Block II: only after the September–October exam.
  • Stream 2: any number of times, limited to once a month, during admission validity.
  • Streams 3 and 4: only through ODE — not the public exams.

Registration is online only (sdmis.nios.ac.in). You can’t register twice in a month for the same subject.

Senior Secondary: Hindi (301), English (302), Sanskrit (309), Mathematics (311), Physics (312), Chemistry (313), Biology (314), History (315), Geography (316), Political Science (317), Economics (318), Business Studies (319), Accountancy (320), Home Science (321), Psychology (328), Computer Science (330), Sociology (331), Painting (332), Environmental Science (333), Mass Communication (335), Data Entry Operations (336), Introduction to Law (338), Library & Information Science (339).

Fee and exam day

  • Fee: ₹600 per subject, plus ₹250 extra for subjects involving practicals; paid online only.
  • Centres: NIOS HQ, Noida (A-31, Sector 62) and designated Kendriya Vidyalayas.
  • Bring the original NIOS ID card, one photo ID (Aadhaar, PAN, passport, voter ID, driving licence) and the hall ticket.
  • Learners with disabilities must arrange their own writer; one extra hour is allowed.

Results

Re-evaluation of an ODE answer script: apply within 15 days of the result; Senior Secondary fee ₹1,200 per subject.

Common questions

Can Stream 1 students take the NIOS On-Demand Exam?

Yes, but only after their first public exam — March–April for Block I and September–October for Block II.

What is the NIOS ODE fee?

₹600 per subject, plus ₹250 extra for subjects with practicals, as per the 2026-27 prospectus. Confirm on the SDMIS portal when registering.

Where are NIOS On-Demand Exams held?

At NIOS headquarters in Noida and designated Kendriya Vidyalayas listed on sdmis.nios.ac.in.
